US men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter has named a 26-player roster for a pair of March friendlies in Europe against Jamaica and Northern Ireland. Players will begin reporting March 20 to Austria ahead of the FIFA international fixture date.
The roster contains three players currently at MLS clubs, as well as striker Daryl Dike, who’s on loan from Orlando City SC to English championship side Barnsley. There are also several youngsters who were transferred to European clubs from MLS ones in recent months. Otherwise, big-name players from overseas sides comprise the majority of the group. MLS teams are currently in preseason ahead of the 2021 campaign.
“This is another step forward in strengthening our group in preparation for Nations League, Gold Cup, and World Cup Qualifying,” Berhalter said in a release. “It’s great to get the group together to continue to build relationships on and off the field. We look forward to the games and the different challenges they will pose.”
The USMNT will first face Jamaica in Austria on March 25, before taking on Northern Ireland in Belfast on March 28. Due to COVID-19 pandemic protocols, seven players will return to their clubs after facing Concacaf foe Jamaica, with those players noted by an asterisk below.
The current MLS players on the roster are New York Red Bulls center back Aaron Long, Colorado Rapids midfielder Kellyn Acosta and LA Galaxy midfielder Sebastian Lletget. The recent MLS exports list includes Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson (Philadelphia Union), as well as former FC Dallas outside backs Reggie Cannon (Boavista) and Bryan Reynolds (AS Roma).
Check out the entire roster below, which includes an average age of 23 years and 27 days. The 26 players called in average 11 caps, while 16 players are age 22 and younger.
