Awards Reception tickets
WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Monday, October 16, D.C. United and its non-profit arm, United for D.C., will co-host the Third Annual United Awards Reception, presented by East West Mortgage, at the Galleria at Lafayette Centre in downtown Washington, D.C. Following a 6:30 p.m. registration, the event will begin at 7:00 p.m., with a cocktail reception, followed by the awards presentation to honor United's 2006 individual award winners kicking off at 8:00 p.m.
"The United Awards Reception gives D.C. United's fans a unique opportunity, to not only share time with some of our players in a social setting, but to see their favorite players honored for their great work throughout the 2006 season," said Catherine Marquette, Executive Director of United for D.C. and United Director of Community Relations. "This event is great in that it showcases the amazing accomplishments by the team and its players on the field, while at the same time honoring equally amazing accomplishments by the charity. We hope that United's fans and supporters will come out in large numbers to make this an especially special and successful affair."
The United Awards Reception is open to the public and provides various sponsorship opportunities. East West Mortgage, also presenting sponsor of the Celebrity Golf Tournament, has joined as the first presenting sponsor of this year's event, and additional spots are available at $3,000; this donation amount includes recognition in press releases, website articles, on banners, in the event program and via other materials and a set of five invitations to the reception. Supporting sponsorship status is available for $1,500, and includes logo recognition on banners, in the event program and via other materials, as well as a set of five invitations. Budweiser, The Washington Examiner and Clark Construction have all graciously signed on as supporting sponsors thus far of the event.
Individual fans of D.C. United and the work of United for D.C. may also attend this do-not-miss event, with tickets priced at $80. Joined by their families and the D.C. United front office, the 2006 D.C. United team will be present at this event and will support each other as the team honors its individual team award winners. Awards to be presented include Honda Most Valuable Player, Defender of the Year, Budweiser Golden Boot, D.C. United Coaches Award and US Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year. At last year's event, fans watched as Christian Gomez was honored with the Honda MVP, Jaime Moreno was awarded the Budweiser Scoring Champion and Bobby Boswell was recognized as the US Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year. Attendants at the inaugural event in 2004 likely cannot forget the moving moments shared as everyone celebrated Jaime Moreno's return to glory after a potentially career-ending back injury as he took home MVP, Scoring Champion and the People's Choice awards.
In addition to recognizing the individual team honors, United for D.C. will highlight the work it accomplishes in the community, with the assistance of D.C. United and its players, which would not be possible without the support of the sponsors and fans of its three key fundraising events, including the United Awards Reception. United for D.C. uses the sport of soccer to impact positively the lives of urban, disadvantaged and at-risk youth across the region, but specifically in the District of Columbia via four signature programs: United Reads, Kicks for Kids, United Community Grants and the United Soccer Club.
