UCLA midfielder Leo Stolz is preparing to embark on his professional career. But first, he bolstered his resume with the highest honor in college soccer.
Stolz was named the MAC Hermann award winner on Friday, as the German-born midfielder beat out Syracuse goalkeeper and Generation adidas signing Alex Bono and North Carolina's MLS hopeful, forward Andy Craven, as the latest winner of the award. Bono's consolation on Friday was getting called up to Jurgen Klinsmann's 28-man senior USMNT roster for January camp.
The MAC Hermann award honors the best male and female soccer players each year. The highest individual honor in college soccer, the award was first created by the Missouri Athletic Club, and is now awarded in a partnership between the MAC and the NSCAA.
Stolz, who told AmericanSoccerNow.com he'll be heading back home to Germany for trials with lower division clubs there, joins past winners that include five current MLS players: New York City FC's Patrick Mullins (2012, 2013), Philadelphia's Andrew Wenger (2011), Portland's Darlington Nagbe (2010), New England's Teal Bunbury (2009) and NYCFC's Chris Wingert (2003).
