ESPN commentator Taylor Twellman dropped an interesting nugget during the MLS SuperDraft broadcast Thursday, revealing that US national team midfielder Alejandro Bedoya is in negotiations with MLS and that the Colorado Rapids are interested.
If Bedoya moves to MLS from French club FC Nantes, he would come to the league via allocation. Colorado acquired the No. 1 allocation spot during the draft on Thursday in a trade with the Chicago Fire that also included the 12th and 15th overall picks.
Twellman clarified his reporting on Twitter after making his remarks on the broadcast, making it clear that Bedoya and MLS still have a ways to go before any deal is done and that the Rapids are merely “trying to get their ducks in a row” in the event that he comes back.
Bedoya himself weighed in on the report on Twitter, referencing a reported deal to come back to the league that fell through last summer.
Bedoya, 28, has played with Nantes since August 2013. He has eight goals in 71 career appearances with the French Ligue 1 club, and a pair of goals in 44 caps with the US men’s national team.
He starred at Boston College before beginning his professional career with Swedish side Örebro in 2009.
