Update:BBC Sport reported later on Tuesday that Cole and the Galaxy have agreed to terms.
Reported LA Galaxy target Ashley Cole had his contract officially terminated by Italian club AS Roma on Tuesday, paving the way for the English left back to move to MLS.
Cole, 35, hasn’t played this season for Roma. He moved to the Italian club in the summer of 2014 after lengthy stints at Arsenal and Chelsea, appearing 16 times in league and cup play for Roma during the 2014-15 season.
It was reported over the weekend by the LA Times and ESPN FC that Roma and Cole had terminated his deal, with the club making the news official on Tuesday morning. His terminated deal means his next club can sign him to a free agent contract without paying Roma a transfer fee.
Cole first rose to prominence at Arsenal, winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups in eight seasons with the English club. He moved across London to Chelsea in 2006, winning another league title, four more FA Cups, a League Cup and a Champions League title during his time with the Blues.
A veteran of three World Cups, Cole has 107 career caps for the English national team.
