Fresh off of the arrivals of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard to MLS, another English star is reportedly considering making a future move to the league.
Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney told The Seattle Times earlier this week that he is open to a future move to North America, though we shouldn’t expect the 29-year-old – who still has a few years remaining on his contract – to cross the pond any time soon.
“I’m obviously concentrating on Manchester United,” said Rooney, who was in Seattle for the English Premier League side’s International Champions Cup win against Club América on Friday. “When that time comes, [MLS will] be something I’d think about. [I’ll] sit down with my wife and children and decide if it would be right for me.”
Rooney has been a global star since he was a teenager, playing three seasons with boyhood club Everton before moving to Manchester United in 2004. He’s had a great deal of success with the Red Devils, scoring 170 goals in 340 Premier League appearances, winning five EPL championships and a UEFA Champions League crown in his 11 years at the club.
He has 48 goals in 105 career caps with England, appearing for the Three Lions at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
