Another MLSer is headed to Merseyside for a training stint.
A few weeks after New York striker Juan Agudelo spent time with EPL side Liverpool, Toronto FC announced on Sunday that goalkeeper Stefan Frei is training with the club until Dec. 18.
“This is a great opportunity for Stefan and we were happy to give him permission to train with a historic club like Liverpool,” TFC manager Aron Winter said in a statement. “He has emerged as one of the top 'keepers in the league since the start of his career and has certainly earned this special opportunity.”
Frei, 25, has been the presumed No. 1 keeper for TFC since joining the club in 2009. He made 27 league appearances for the Reds in 2011 and also four starts in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship.
However, toward the end of the season, Winter seemed to have handed the starting role to Milos Kocic. Kocic started seven of the final nine matches of the year.
