Toronto FC unveils 2009 uniforms

Toronto FC's new away jersey for the 2009 season features an embossed maple leaf on the front.

Toronto FC players Jim Brennan, Danny Dichio, Todd Dunivant, Rohan Ricketts, Chad Barrett and Greg Sutton joined hundreds of team supporters Thursday night to unveil the team's new 2009 home and away uniforms.

It is the first time the team has changed its uniform since its inception. The new home jersey is red with grey trim and has a distinctly Canadian flavour with an embossed maple leaf featured in the centre and an embroidered Canadian flag patch on the left sleeve. A major new element of the new home jersey is the addition of a collar. The phrase 'ALL FOR ONE' is printed on the back of the collar to symbolize the unique relationship between the team and its supporters.

The new away jersey is grey, without a collar, and also includes an embossed maple leaf.

"We're excited about the changes to our uniform and we know that our supporters will like them too," said Tom Anselmi, executive vice-president and chief operating officer for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. "Working with our partners at Adidas, we've made some subtle, yet unique, additions to the jersey that recognizes Toronto FC as Canada's team in Major League Soccer."

Players will benefit from technological developments which have been incorporated into the jersey, including the Formotion three dimensional engineered fit for enhanced natural movement. The jersey also has mesh inserts for ventilation across the back, neck and under arms.

Toronto FC will wear the new uniforms during the 2009 Major League Soccer season which begins in March 2009. Toronto FC faces the Kansas City Wizards in Kansas City for its first game of the 2009 Major League Soccer (MLS) season on Saturday, March 21. Toronto FC will host MLS's new expansion team the Seattle Sounders FC, in its home opener on Saturday, April 4 at BMO Field. Kick off is at 3 p.m. For more information, please visit www.torontofc.ca. Toronto FC's new home jersey is available to supporters on Friday, December 5 exclusively at CentreSports (Air Canada Centre).
