TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

Toronto FC have signed defender Rocco Romeo to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Tuesday. Romeo is the club's 21st Homegrown signing.

Romeo, 19, made 10 appearances with TFC II in USL League One last season as well as eight appearances in the Danish second division with HB Koge while on loan.

"We’re excited to have Rocco on a first team contract. He gained valuable experience last year playing in Europe, with our USL team, and training at times with the first team. Rocco is a talented, strong, athletic young central defender with a competitive personality. His competitive personality is incredible. It’s also very important to the development of a young player, and it’s infectious, and we love it,” GM Ali Curtis said in a statement. “He strives to get better every single day, and we’re looking forward to working with him. And, it has to be noted that we are also very happy for Rocco’s family as they have supported him to get to this point, and in all ways.”

The center back, listed at 6'2", made three appearances for Canada at the Concacaf U-20 Championships in November of 2018. He figures to slot on the depth chart behind Omar Gonzalez, Chris Mavinga, Laurent Ciman and Eriq Zavaleta to start preseason.
