TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Toronto FC have acquired defender Tony Gallacher on loan from English champions Liverpool FC, the club announced Monday. Gallacher has already completed quarantine, the club added.
Gallacher, 21, has made 32 appearances for Liverpool’s U-23 team, scoring two goals with one assist over two seasons as well as one game with the senior side in a League Cup loss to Aston Villa last year. Gallacher is a natural left back and has represented Scotland at various youth levels including U-16, U-17 and U-19.
“Tony is a young, promising defender that will provide us with additional depth on our backline for the remainder of the year,” TFC general manager Ali Curtis said in a club statement. “We feel his character and personality will fit well within our group.”
The youngster boosts Toronto's options at left back, behind incumbent starter Justin Morrow. Richie Laryea has played the position as well, while fellow natural right-sided fullback Auro made a few appearances on the left last season.
Toronto are next in action on Saturday against D.C. United (7:30 pm ET | TV & streaming).
