Toronto FC 4, DC United 4 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

Toronto FC erased a three-goal halftime deficit against D.C. United Wednesday to earn a 4-4 draw at BMO Field. 

After D.C. silenced Toronto in the first half, a cascade of second-half goals gave both clubs a point in the end. 

United came out of the gates fast scoring twice in five minutes. In the 12th minute, midfielder Paul Arriola passed a ball to Luciano Acosta who crossed it into the box for Yamil Asad to finish in the first score of the night. Minutes later, Arriola had a chance himself on a cross from Zoltán Stieber inside the box. With an acrobatic diving header, Arriola doubled the lead.

Forward Darren Mattocks added a third goal just before halftime. United hit 8-of-10 shots on target and converted three into scores in one half, but the night was far from over. 

With the help of the wind, United kept the ball in their attacking third for the entire first half, but the switch of the pitch eventually shifted the winds in Toronto's favor. With two goals in less than 10 minutes and two late equalizers from Nick Hagglund, Toronto mirrored United's success to the draw.

Three Things

THE BIG PICTURE: With a dominant first-half performance and stand-up goalkeeping from David Ousted, United should have come away with all three points. A mix of frustration and satisfaction follow the club back home ahead of a U.S. Open Cup match against Orlando City SC next Wednesday. For United, one point is still leaps and bounds better than none, especially in a tough environment like BMO Field. 

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Before both of Hagglund's equalizers, Arriola's header would have easily taken this. The second-half scoreline overshadowed the moment, and Hagglund's stoppage-time heroics stole the day. 

MAN OF THE MATCH
: Hagglund scored his first and second goal of the season Wednesday -- not one, but two equalizing goals to scrape together a Toronto point.
