A pair of players were selected in Stage 2 of the 2018 Re-Entry Draft on Thursday, with midfielder Tommy McNamara chosen by the Houston Dynamo and goalkeeper Matt Lampson picked up by the LA Galaxy.
McNamara, 27, spent the last four years with New York City FC, where he tallied 13 goals and 14 assists across 86 games (66 starts), though only saw 370 minutes across 10 appearances in 2018. His most productive season with City came in 2016, where he locked down a starting role and posted a five-goal, nine-assist season across 30 games (28 starts). McNamara was originally drafted by Chivas USA in 2014, though a promising rookie season was cut short by a knee injury.
Lampson, 29, will join his fourth MLS club should he agree to terms with the Galaxy. He spent 2018 with Minnesota United, where he made eight appearances. He got his start in MLS in 2012 after signing a Homegrown contract with Columbus Crew SC, for whom he made 16 appearances across four seasons while also spending time on loan in the USL. He then moved to the Chicago Fire in 2016, and was the starter for Chicago for most of 2017 as they made the playoffs with a third-place finish in the East.
All teams who selected players in Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Draft can negotiate a new contract with their selections, and will have seven days to issue the player a genuine offer.
Teams selected in the reverse order of their finish during the 2018 season, taking into account playoff performance. The San Jose Earthquakes held the first selection and MLS Cup champion Atlanta United had the 23rd pick. Incoming expansion club FC Cincinnati had the final pick.
