UPDATE (Feb. 17, 11:30 am ET): Timothy Weah's return from injury was a short one. The 19-year-old suffered a torn hamstring Sunday in his first match back from the same injury that sidelined him for six months.
US men's national team winger Timothy Weah has made his long-awaited return to the field.
The 19-year-old forward made his first appearance for Ligue 1 side Lille since suffering a hamstring tear in August 2019 that has kept him sidelined for the better part of the last six months, coming on a second-half substitute in Lille's 2-1 Sunday defeat to Marseille. It was the first time Weah was available for selection since the injury.
While an equalizing goal would have made for a more theatrical return, Weah's return itself is great news for USMNT fans who have stock in the young attacker's future with the team. Weah remains one of the highest-upside prospects in the pool, with his injury representing an unfortunate setback just a couple games into his Lille tenure.
Weah moved to Lille from Celtic last year after a stint with the Scottish side that saw him net three goals in 13 appearances following a loan from Paris Saint-Germain. He has one goal in eight senior caps for the USMNT, and now that he appears to be back to health, he'll look to re-work his way back into the fold.
