Thomas named to Jamaica roster

Shavar Thomas has been named to the Jamaican national team for two World Cup qualifiers.

CARSON, Calif. --
Chivas USA defender Shavar Thomas has been called up to the Jamaican National Team for its upcoming matches against Mexico and Honduras, as part of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. The team's match against Mexico will take place in Jamaica on Sept. 6, and will travel to Honduras on Sept. 10 for the second match. Thomas departs Los Angeles on Sunday to join the team.

The matches against Mexico and Honduras are Jamaica's second and third of the semifinal round of qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, after earning a 1-1 tie against Canada in Toronto in the team's first match of this phase, on Aug. 20. Thomas was not part of Jamaica's roster for that match.


The defender will miss Tuesday's game against Tauro F.C. in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round. Thomas will also be absent for Chivas USA's MLS game at Toronto on Saturday, Sept. 6th. Thomas will be with the Jamaican National Team through the team's game on Sept. 10th.
