TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Returning
Home is where the heart is. At least that was the case for a veteran trio of the New England Revolution.
The Revolution announced on Friday that they have re-signed forward Teal Bunbury, defender Andrew Farrell, and goalkeeper Brad Knighton through the 2018 MLS season. The three players were set to be out of contract at the end of the year, but the club has ensured that they will stick around at least a little while longer.
Additionally, New England announced that they have re-signed forward Brian Wright after choosing not to pick up his option earlier this offseason.
"We're pleased to have re-signed veteran presences such as Teal, Andrew, and Brad. They have been and will continue to be important parts of the club," Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a statement released by the club. "In addition, we look forward to bringing back Brian as he continues to grow in his development as a player."
Bunbury, 27, returns for a fifth season with the Revolution and his ninth MLS season. He appeared in 28 games this year, making 13 starts, scoring seven goals, and delivering one assist. He was voted the Revolution's 2017 Players' Player of the Year.
The 25-year-old Farrell heads back to New England for a sixth season. The first overall selection of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Farrell appeared in 30 games, all starts, and recorded a career-high three assists in 2017.
Knighton, 32, is set for an eighth season with the Revolution and 11th in MLS. The veteran goalkeeper made six starts in net, registered 20 saves, and recorded a shutout in 2017. In addition, Knighton started in each of the club's three US Open Cup matches.
The 22-year-old Wright returns for a second season with the Revolution. Wright, the eighth overall selection of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, made two appearances for a combined 45 minutes in his first MLS campaign.
