New York’s Greg Sutton took home the MLS Save of the Week for Week 13 after his denial of Kenny Mansally’s left-footed curler helped the Red Bulls defeat the Revolution, 2-1.
Mansally’s one-timed strike from 25 yards out seemed destined to equalize in the 59th minute, but Sutton’s acrobatic deflection kept the Red Bulls in front. Ranging to his right, Sutton dove with a full-extension and got a piece of the ball with his right hand, just managing to send it wide of the net.
Sutton, who also turned away a Shalrie Joseph penalty kick in the 33rd minute, tallied a shade less than 40 percent of the votes to win by a comfortable margin. He easily edged out runner-up Matt Pickens of Colorado, who kept out a half-volley from Portland’s Kenny Cooper in a 1-0 Rapids victory.
