Toronto FC goalkeeper Greg Sutton returns to the city where he started his professional career, when the Reds face Chicago Fire on Saturday night. Sutton spent a year with the Fire in 1999. "It's always a special place for me to go and play. I learned a lot when I played at Chicago and I was lucky to start my career there."
The Reds have lost five of six games on the road this season, and are yet to keep a clean sheet away from BMO Field, but Sutton believes that will change soon. "We've been disappointed with the record away from home," said Sutton. "But we're now a better team than at the beginning of the season. The guys have come together more and as the season has gone on we have gelled."
"It's only a matter of time before we turn the road record around. Confidence is growing on the team and we know we have the ability to have a decent record in the league. We've maybe been a bit too defensive on the road and tried to sit back and wait for opportunities to come instead of taking the game to the opposition. We've given up too many early goals and ended up chasing the game. We need to have the same mentality as we have at home," said Sutton.
Chicago Fire hold an identical record to Toronto with 21 points, but are above the Reds in the MLS standings on goal difference. "We will be positive in Chicago and go out to get a good result," said Sutton. "It's going to be a competitive match and it's one of the more important games we have come across this season because we can jump ahead of them in the standings and get confidence of winning away from home."
The game is live on Rogers Sportsnet at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
