Super Mario selected to U-21 squad

Inter Milan's Mario Balotelli has been called up to the U-21 team more than two weeks after being granted Italian citizenship.

Internazionale teenager Mario Balotelli has been called up into the Italy Under-21 squad, little over two weeks after being granted Italian citizenship.

Of Ghanaian origin, Balotelli was born in Palermo and adopted by an Italian family.

However, as the adoption was never made official he was forced to wait until his 18th birthday before applying for the Italian nationality.

Balotelli did so on August 12 and is now set to make his first appearance in an Azzurri shirt as Italy take on Greece on September 5 and Croatia four days later in the Euro 2009 qualifiers.
