After helping Stanford University win its first NCAA men's soccer title and becoming the rare amateur player to play for the senior US national team, forward Jordan Morris ended his college career by taking the top individual award in college soccer, the MAC Hermann trophy.
The announcement was made Friday during a ceremony at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, as Morris received the honor over fellow finalists Brandon Allen, a Georgetown forward who has signed his a Homegrown deal with the New York Red Bulls, and Creighton forward Fabian Herbers. Penn State midfielder Raquel Rodriguez won's the MAC Hermann trophy on the women's side.
The MAC Hermann award honors the best male and female soccer players each year. The highest individual honor in college soccer, the award was first created by the Missouri Athletic Club, and is now awarded in a partnership between the MAC and the NSCAA.
Morris announced earlier this week he will turn professional, but he has not yet signed a contract. Eligible to be a Seattle Sounders Homegrown player, the striker will be training with German club Werder Bremen, officially as a "guest," beginning on Monday.
A US international since 2014, Morris split his time last year between the senior squad and Under-23 team. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the College Cup, which Stanford won this season, and he is the first Stanford men's player to win the MAC Hermann trophy.
