An outstanding run of form marked by three goals and two assists has earned Sporting Kansas City forward Krisztian Nemeth the Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month Award for May.
Playing in both wide and central attacking roles, the Hungarian hitman helped his team compile a 3-0-2 record in May – and in the process earned a call-up for his nation's European Championship qualifiers in June.
Nemeth, who joined Sporting from Dutch side Roda JC Kerkrade in December, is the second straight SKC player to earn this award, with midfielder Benny Feilhaber having won the honor in April thanks to two goals and three assists that month.
After a promising start to his MLS career with three goals in three April matches, Nemeth's breakout arrived in a midweek meeting with the New England Revolution on May 20. He netted two goals and an assist in 89 minutes that night to inspire a 4-2 comeback victory at Sporting Park, then followed it up with a goal and an assist in KC's 4-0 thrashing of FC Dallas last week.
Nemeth edged Toronto FC Designated Player Sebastian Giovinco by some six percentage points in the vote, while Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey followed not far behind in third place.
