Forward Diego Rubio will miss the rest of Sporting Kansas City's season with a torn right ACL, the club announced on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Chilean was injured during training on Friday, ahead of Sunday's match at Real Salt Lake. He is set to undergo surgery next week and return for the 2017 season.
Rubio, who joined Sporting in March as a Young Designated Player on loan from Spanish side Real Valladolid and had the transfer made permanent in September, had three goals and one assist in 20 matches across all competitions. He is the only player in club history to score in MLS, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League play in a single season.
