Sporting Kansas City want fans to watch their matches in a whole new way.
The club have become the first in MLS to feature a semi-permanent installation of an aerial SkyCam at their home stadium, and they will debut it on Saturday against Real Salt Lake.
The SkyCam, a cable-suspended aerial camera, will be able to capture new overheard angles of the action on the field and will be seen on every Kansas City telecast throughout the season.
“Bringing SkyCam to professional soccer will help SKCTV deliver the best television viewing experience in the sport,” Sporting KC president Jake Reid said in a club statement. “This state-of-the-art addition will showcase the game to supporters in a whole new way and aligns with the club’s commitment to innovation and originality.”
The SkyCam Wildcat system, the next-generation system unveiled last summer, is capable of moving at speeds of 25 miles per hour, allowing it to not only keep up with the on-field action, but offer sweeping, dynamic views. SkyCam's aerial cameras have been featured on a range of sporting events over recent years, including the 2014 World Cup.
