Auto racing and soccer certainly don’t have much in common.
But six MLS players will get a chance to test their skills behind the wheel in a new ESPN series set to begin Sunday. Giles Barnes, Graham Zusi, Sean Johnson, Chandler Hoffman, Stephen Keel and Dan Kennedy will run a 2014 Lamborghini through the paces with instruction from TUDOR United SportsCar Championship driver Townsend Bell as part of Continental Tire’s “What’Cha Got” promotion.
The seven-part series features the players taking the car through a coned, autocross course in the parking lot of an MLS Stadium, with the winners from the Eastern and Western Conferences facing off for a chance to win a year-long lease of the Lamborghini.
“It was a great experience to share my racing passion with these athletes,” Bell said in a release. “I’m excited for soccer fans as they watch some of the best athletes in the sport take on the challenge of driving at the limit. With a supercar on the line for the fastest driver, they really go for it.”
Each Sunday the show will feature a different driver/player, with a sneak peak in each players’ own personal garage and the finale set to air Dec. 7.
No word on when Bell and his racing colleagues take to the soccer pitch.
