COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Crew Soccer Foundation announced today that the on-line_auctions for "Soccer Aid V," a unique, annual fund-raiser, have gone live at "MLS Auctions." The exciting program capitalizes on soccer fans' passion for the sport to raise money for charity, through the non-profit arm of Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew, including its primary beneficiary, the Mid-Ohio Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Through its first four years, Soccer Aid has raised more than $25,000 for JDRF.
The autographed black game jerseys being auctioned off feature a 'Soccer Aid V' patch (images attached) and were worn by the Crew in its match vs. Aston Villa on July 28, marking the first time in the program's five-year history that has been incorporated. In addition to the jersey, winning bidders will have the opportunity to experience the thrill of match day at one-of-a-kind Columbus Crew Stadium, with two Center Circle Club seats to the Crew's game vs. the Chicago Fire on Sept. 8, a Soccer Aid T-shirt, on-field recognition and the opportunity to play a 30-minute scrimmage prior to the Sept. 8 game.
At least six jerseys will be up for bids during each of five overlapping week-long bidding periods. The first bidding period began today, Monday, Aug. 6, and runs through Aug. 12. It features the jerseys of Frankie Hejduk, Danny Szetela, Eddie Gaven, Ezra Hendrickson, Bill Gaudette and Ben Hunter. Bidding periods from Aug. 10-17, Aug. 15-22, Aug. 20-27 and Aug. 24-Aug. 31 follow. "MLS Auctions" can be accessed through CrewSoccerFoundation.org and TheCrew.com.

The addition of the patches is an exciting new development this year and the fact that so many of the jerseys are 'game-worn' makes them that much more unique and desirable."
Soccer Aid is modeled after the highly successful "Football Aid" program, which was founded by Craig Paterson in the United Kingdom in 2000 (and launched in 2001) out of a father's desire to create an exciting and rewarding way to raise funds for diabetes research. Football Aid now benefits a host of charitable organizations and has spread throughout Europe. It was brought to the United States in 2003 by former Crew head coach Greg Andrulis, whose son, Austin, has type 1 diabetes.
