Chad Barrett has been voted Major League Soccer’s Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 11 of the 2015 MLS season, after the Seattle Sounders striker scored both goals in his team’s 2-0 road win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Making his first start in seven matches, Barrett more than repaid coach Sigi Schmid’s faith with two first-half strikes at BC Place on Saturday to continue Seattle’s push up the Western Conference standings. The brace was Barrett’s first since May 8, 2010, when he scored twice in a 4-1 Toronto FC win over the Chicago Fire.
Barrett opened the scoring just five minutes in, when he outpaced Whitecaps defender Kendall Waston to reach Clint Dempsey’s pass and finish low past ‘Caps goalkeeper David Ousted.
Barrett doubled the Sounders’ lead seven minutes before intermission, getting on the end of a well-weighted pass from Marco Pappa and volleying past Ousted from a tight angle. That goal capped off a 25-pass sequence, the longest unbroken passing sequence by an MLS team this season and the second-longest since 2010.
Seattle return to action this Saturday when they host Sporting Kansas City at CenturyLink Field (10 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
