Seattle Sounders winger Jordan Morris has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 11, following a dominant showing in Seattle's record-breaking 7-1 romp over the San Jose Earthquakes.
Morris scored the opening goal and a dished out a career-high three assists in the contest. The 25-year-old Homegrown product now has six goals and five assists in 2020, with his combined 11 goals and assists tied for the second-highest total in the league.
Morris kicked off the eventual rout for Seattle in the fourth minute, collecting the ball at midfield and charging past a group of Quakes defenders all the way into the penalty area before slotting home a left-footed finish.
He picked up his first assist of the evening with a perfectly placed through ball to set up a goal from teammate Raul Ruidiaz in the 33rd minute, to extend Seattle's lead to 5-0 and giving them the MLS record for the most goals ever in a first half and for the fastest team in league history to reach five goals.
Morris continued to dominate as Seattle poured it on, helping push Seattle’s advantage to 6-0 with another assist on João Paulo’s 48th-minute goal.
Finally, he picked up his third helper of the match, as he sent in the cross to an open Joevin Jones in the box, who slotted home the finish to round out the seven-goal explosion.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
