Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey to miss 2-3 weeks after suffering hamstring injury with USMNT

Clint Dempsey, US national team, Panama

The US national team will be without their captain for their upcoming European friendlies and the Seattle Sounders will be without one of their biggest stars for the next two to three weeks after US Soccer revealed on Tuesday that Clint Dempsey suffered a right hamstring injury in training on Monday.

Dempsey suffered the injury at USMNT practice in Zurich, Switzerland. The Designated Player returned to Seattle on Tuesday to begin treatment. He will miss the Sounders friendly match against Club Tijuana on Tuesday night and will likely be out for Seattle’s contest at FC Dallas on Saturday.

In addition to this weekend’s match at Dallas and Seattle’s April 4 date with Houston, Dempsey’s injury puts his status for the Sounders Western Conference Final rematch at the LA Galaxy on April 12 in jeopardy.

The USMNT will not bring in a replacement for Dempsey ahead of Wednesday’s match at Denmark (3 pm ET, ESPN2, UniMas). The US will continue camp following Wednesday’s game, returning to training ahead of next Tuesday's friendly at Switzerland.
