The Seattle Sounders beat New York City FC, 3-1, on Sunday at CenturyLink Field behind a first-half strike from Cristian Roldan and Gustav Svensson's booming golazo early in the second half. Seattle extends a three-game winning streak and is undefeated in six matches overall.
In the 36th minute, with the Sounders on the attack, Roldan passed back from the left side of the box and then sought out the open space, sneaking his way into a pocket on the other side -- just in time for the reversal to find him on the right. A quick turn and solid strike later, the Sounders were on their way to victory.
Just after halftime, Harry Shipp's alert centering pass found a trailing Svensson ... 30 yards from goal, with plenty of room to line up a blast that glanced off Sean Johnson. Shipp added on an insurance goal in the 86th minute, with a strong middle cut and high-angled shot.
Maxi Moralez hit the crossbar on an early free kick, and it was the closest NYCFC came to scoring until Jesus Medina found the back of the net on a counter after the hour mark.

Three things
THE BIG PICTURE
They're doing it … again. The Sounders have won three in a row, are undefeated in six, and yes – are threatening to race toward extending their consecutive streak of postseason appearances. For NYCFC, it was a tough L to take, but perhaps understandable given the cross-country away week that opened Wednesday in Orlando. They remain second in the East.
