Seattle Sounders 2, San Jose Earthquakes 2 | 2019 MLS Match Recap

The San Jose Earthquakes roared into the lead against the Seattle Sounders through 60 minutes, but two quick goals from the home side leveled the score as the teams played to an entertaining 2-2 draw at CenturyLink Field on Wednesday.

Shea Salinas notched his first career multi-goal game in MLS for San Jose, but the Sounders, fresh off their first loss of the season, rallied to clinch a share of the points in the match.

Around the 30 minute mark, San Jose started to get some sustained pressure in attack, and that paid off when Salinas hit an angled shot from the left to beat Stefan Frei to make it 1-0 in the 34th minute.

Right after the whistle blew to kick off the second half, the Earthquakes nearly had a two-goal lead, as Cristian Espinoza's shot beat Frei but bounced off the post before bouncing away from goal. Several minutes later, they had another shot off the post, this time from Jackson Yueill, before Espinoza crossed to Salinas, who scored his second goal of the game to double the lead.

By this point the Sounders were truly out of sorts, but Kelvin Leerdam gave them a boost in the 65th minute as his headed goal off Kim Kee-hee's cross was then followed up in quick succession by a goal from Harry Shipp, his second in as many games, to tie up the match.

Both teams stretched for a winner, but had to settle for a draw on the night.

Three Things 

THE BIG PICTURE: Both teams can take a measure of solace from the draw. San Jose's resurgence continues, and while they'll be kicking themselves for coughing up the lead, they look like they are starting to click under Matias Almeyda. Given the game state, Seattle will be pleased they avoided two losses on the trot ahead of a rematch against LAFC this weekend.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH
: Shipp's goal to tie up the game was a good play and pivotal for the result.

MAN OF THE MATCH: He did get beat on Leerdam's goal, but Salinas showing off his scoring chops in his 12th season in MLS, with his first multi-goal game, means he was the clear choice as the Quakes' revival continues.
