Kelvin Leerdam's strike five-plus minutes into second-half stoppage time gave Seattle Sounders FC a 1-0 win over Cascadia rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC Saturday night at CenturyLink Field.
It was sweet justice for the Sounders, who peppered the Whitecaps' defense with attack after attack in the late going to end a five-match winless streak. The Whitecaps' streak of six games without a loss came to an end.
The Sounders had an apparent Danny Leyva goal in the 60th minute taken off the scoreboard after an officials' video review deemed that Whitecaps goalkeeper Zac MacMath was fouled just before the goal.
Justin Dhillon, signed from the USL Championship on Friday, made his MLS debut for Seattle, and the 16-year-old homegrown Sounder Leyva became the third-youngest player ever to start an MLS match.
