the fourth highest scorer in league history -- yes, I think it will. It remains to be seen if the Chivas organization will actually let good ole' Bob Bradley actually make his own decisions on player picks throughout the season, but so far so good.
There is no question that both RSL and their Rocky Mountain Cup rivals, the Colorado Rapids, are banking that the trade of Clint Mathis for Jeff Cunningham will benefit two very talented players, although I have to say I think RSL got the better of the deal.
They aren't the only teams in MLS who are hoping the coaches can make the difference, as Red Bulls coach Mo Johnston -- never one to shy away from a bold decision -- is tasked with turning the ultimate under-achievers into a team that delivers on it's talent. Off course, having traded Eddie Gaven to Columbus for Edson Buddle, he has taken a gamble that he can get Buddle to deliver. Hmm, that sounds familiar, although I think Mo can make that happen.
Of course that leaves the same task for Columbus coach Sigi Schmid, who now has to see if he can take that raw talent and speed of Gaven (still one of my favorite players in MLS) and point him in the right direction. Hmm ... I see a pattern developing here. I have to say I think Schmid comes off best here. Although I think it'll take a while for them to hit the mark.I still think they'll do well.
D.C. United: now there is a team of late bloomers. Every year it's the same story; poor start and strong finish. No doubt Freddy Adu will be looking for more playing time this season. Overall I think we'll see a stronger start this year, not a great start, but stranger things have happened.
I think this season will take a little settling into, I think there'll be a few surprises in the openers, either way - I'm glad soccer is back.
