TORONTO -- Seattle Sounders captain Osvaldo Alonso is just one more win away from winning the 2016 MLS Cup (8 pm ET; FOX and UniMás | TSN and RDS), and lifting the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy, after eight seasons.
The good news for Sounders fans is that there is no doubt that Alonso will be on the field on Saturday night.
The defensive midfielder had to be subbed out of the second leg of the Western Conference Championship against the Colorado Rapids in the 74th minute due to a left knee sprain and is listed as questionable on the Sounders' official injury report.
Alonso was seen working off to the side at training on Friday but head coach Brian Schmetzer put any talk of an Alonso absence to bed after the training session.
"He's on a different training plan, he will play tomorrow. Like with all of the injuries we've had late in the season, guys are on different plans. [Sounders head athletic trainer] Chris Cornish, [manager of performance and sports science] Dave [Tenney], those guys do a good job of getting guys ready to play games so he will be out there tomorrow."
Two more Sounders, Brad Evans and Erik Friberg, are listed on the injury report but both participated fully in training and will be available for the final.
There was some bad news for Seattle during Friday's training, as Oalex Anderson had to be carried off the field with an unknown injury. The young forward has not played in the Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs.
One sight for sore eyes on the field was none other than Clint Dempsey. The forward was seen in full training gear off the side of practice despite the fact that he will not play in the MLS Cup final. He has not played for the team since being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.
"He was out there, he's part of the team," said Schmetzer.
