Real Salt Lake look to extend an unbeaten streak to a season-high four games when they head to northern California to face a San Jose Earthquakes team looking to bounce back from a midweek loss at Minnesota United.
RSL (8-8-2) made it back-to-back clean sheet victories on Wednesday, beating Columbus Crew SC, 1-0, at Rio Tinto Stadium. Sam Johnson scored the lone goal in the 38th minute, finding himself in position to score after a booming clearance from Aaron Herrera inside his own 18-yard box. Johnson raced past two Columbus defenders and clinically finished a bouncing ball into the bottom corner.
The Earthquakes (7-7-4) had a six-match unbeaten streak snapped with a 3-1 loss at Allianz Field Wednesday. Tommy Thompson canceled out Darwin Quintero's opening strike with an equalizer in first-half stoppage time before Michael Boxall and Kevin Molino added second-half goals to lead the Loons.
