San Jose Earthquakes Hall of Fame coach helps out Los Gatos United Soccer League

Earthquakes assistant coach John Doyle with coaches from Los Gatos United Soccer League.

On Sunday, August 28, just a day after the San Jose Earthquakes had dispatched their rivals, the Los Angeles Galaxy by a 2-1 score, Earthquakes assistant coach John Doyle was in Los Gatos helping out coaches from Los Gatos United Soccer League.

Doyle led a coaching clinic at Fisher Middle School in Los Gatos, imparting the wisdom learned from appearing in the 1988 Olympics and 1990 World Cup with the United States National Team to 13 lucky competitive and recreational coaches from Los Gatos. The former University of San Francisco All-American and San Jose Earthquakes star demonstrated numerous drills that he believes are best for improving the skills of youth players at any level.

The hour-long clinic concluded with a Q&A session with Doyle. Doyle joined the Earthquakes as an assistant coach prior to the 2004 season and was the inaugural inductee into the San Jose Earthquakes Hall Of Fame on August 27.

"All of the coaches in attendance thought the time was very well spent," said Los Gatos United Coaching Commissioner Bob Schwarts. "John Doyle is a very special person and of course a gifted soccer coach. We were privileged to learn from him."
