TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Rumor
Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield is one of the highest-profile Canadians currently playing in Europe, but could he be set to make a move to the country he represents?
That's the word from The Sun, which reported on Monday that two Canadian sides, Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps FC, "have shown strong interest" in signing Arfield as a Designated Player this year. Arfield's contract with Burnley expires in June 2018, meaning other teams are free to approach him to sign a pre-contract agreement.
Arfield, 29, has been with Burnley since 2013. A member of the squad that was promoted to the Premier League in 2014-15, Arfield remained with the team after they were relegated at the end of that season, but has taken on a larger role in the meantime, becoming a regular in the current Premier League squad under Sean Dyche.
Arfield has represented Canada 12 times since making his debut in March 2016. The midfielder, born in Scotland, is known for his set-piece prowess.
