It's the cool thing to do the last, oh, five years or so now, since David Beckham came to MLS and brought with him worldwide exposure and notoriety. Vaguely state, in no certain terms, that maybe, possibly, one day, if the time is right, you might consider a move to MLS "one day."
Because why not, right?
Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri, speaking to French newspaper L'Equipe while with the French national team, had the following to say about his playing future, which could include either a return to his boyhood club, Marseille, or a venture into the unknown, Major League Soccer:
“Clearly, economic reality stops me from thinking about playing at OM right now," he said. "In the future, I don’t know yet. I would like to discover the MLS. I love American culture.”
Nasri joins Galatasaray forward Didier Drogba as the most recent stars to make vague, non-committal comments about perhaps, maybe one day coming to play in MLS. Drogba said the following in an interview that ran last week on SI.com:
"I don't know, maybe one day it would be another challenge. For now I'm more focused on what I can do with Galatasaray. But if the time comes and if there is a possibility [in MLS], why not?"
He went on to say: "New York is great. Everybody knows that I love the US."
Let's find the commonalities between the two above statements: "I don't know," and "I love American culture and/or the US."
Will these players ever make their way to an MLS field? I don't know, maybe if the opportunity arises and the time is right, then why not?
