It gives me little-to-no great pleasure to announce today that last Friday, five days ago, MLSsoccer.com passed along word that world soccer superstar and current Real Madrid midfielder Kaká attended the training session of USL PRO side Orlando City SC.
And in doing so, were maybe even first on the Internet to speculate that Kaká might make a whole lot of sense as the club's first ever Designated Player if the third-division side makes the jump to MLS in 2015 as they hope to do.
Many scoffed and laughed at the idea. Understandably so, I suppose.
So here's where we're at as of the following Wednesday morning: Orlando City head coach Adrian Heath did a morning interview with local television network WFTV 9 anchor Christian Bruey, during which, according to Bruey, he said flat out that if MLS is in Orlando in 2015, Kaká will be an Orlando City Lion.
In theory, it's an astronomical home run by the Orlando City front office, if it happens. Kaká, who would be 33 in 2015, would dwarf the entire roster of Designated Players for most other MLS teams from Day 1, if it happens. New OCSC investor Flávio Augusto da Silva's role with the team will have been fulfilled and exceeded with this one signing alone, if it happens.
There's really only one thing left to say: Get that stadium built ASAP.
Orlando City fans, MLS fans, Kaká to OCSC in 2015 – are you even buying this? And if you're not, is it just because you're too busy hating on the (maybe soon to be) new kids on the block already?
