Real Salt Lake Owner David W. Checketts will be joined by Sandy City Mayor Tom Dolan, Utah Lieutenant Governor Gary Herbert, and several official team, Utah and Sandy dignitaries to help celebrate the "Topping Out Ceremony" on the future home of Real Salt Lake, Monday, December 10, at 2:30 p.m. Media are invited to join Real Salt Lake to usher in this historic occasion, with lunch being served at 1:00 p.m.
"Topping out" is the term used by ironworkers to indicate the final piece of structural steel being raised into place. Although the stadium is not scheduled be open officially until fall 2008, the Topping Out ceremony is a significant contractor's tradition with roots dating back to ancient Scandinavia.
Checketts and Dolan will be joined by Layton Construction President Dave Layton, Turner Construction Project Executive Gene Fatur, Utah Senate President John Valentine, Utah House of Representatives Speaker Greg Curtis, Utah State Senator Sheldon Killpack, and other local and state government dignitaries.
