SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake General Manager Steve Pastorino and Head Coach John Ellinger today announced the trade of its 2006 natural fourth round Supplemental Draft pick to Colorado, in exchange for former Rapids MF Seth Trembly. Trembly joins the 18-man senior roster, replacing DF Jeff Stewart who was placed on season-ending injury reserve, after arriving in Salt Lake City Tuesday night and joining his new teammates at training today.
"Making the move to Real Salt Lake was something that I wanted to do to since the beginning of the offseason, and reuniting with John Ellinger is an opportunity I could not pass up," said Trembly. "I am happy and excited to be in Salt Lake City, and ready to do whatever I can to help this team win an MLS Cup Championship."
Trembly is familiar with Ellinger after being named to the U-17 National Team, representing the United States at the FIFA World Championship in New Zealand in November, 1999. Under Ellinger's guidance, the talented midfielder enjoyed 29 career international appearances with the U-17s, tallying three goals.
"I coached Seth Trembly as part of the 1999 U.S. National Team for the FIFA U-17 World Championships along with [current RSL players] Nelson Akwari, DJ Countess, Jordan Cila and Kenny Cutler," said Ellinger. "He is primarily a left-sided player who can play with both feet, is very intense and plays with great passion. The left side of the field is an area where we need some depth and his arrival to Real Salt Lake comes at a good time."
The Colorado native spent the past five seasons with the Colorado Rapids signing with the team on August 17, 1999. In his first three seasons with Colorado, Trembly played in a total of 12 games, seeing limited minutes. The 2003 season saw the 23-year old, start 11 games and play in 16 scoring one goal and adding one assist. He finished the 2004 season with five starts and 24 appearances with the Rapids, again scoring one goal and tallying one assist.
