Roma host AC Milan in top Serie A match

Roma's Totti, below, celebrates with teammate Alberto Aquilani. Totti's club have beaten Milan twice this season.

ROME - Roma skipper Francesco Totti is refusing to read too much into AC Milan's record at the Stadio Olimpico as they prepare to host the Rossoneri on Saturday.

Milan have won just twice at Roma in the last 10 years heading into the match, with the Giallorossi looking to reduce their six-point gap on Serie A leaders Internazionale.

The Romans are well aware that anything but a win will be costly to their Scudetto ambitions, especially in view of their next encounter against local rivals Lazio on Wednesday.

Totti said: "It is going to be a very difficult game. I am worried about Milan as a whole because their only aim left this campaign is to finish in the top four of Serie A.

"They will want to take a step in that direction by beating us, even though they would still have 10 games left in order to achieve their aim."

Unlike Milan, Roma are still in all competitions, with the Giallorossi through to the Champions League quarter-finals and the last four of the Coppa Italia.

Last week's win at Real Madrid allowed the Giallorossi to reach the last eight of Europe's elite club competition for the second year in a row and has really inspired Luciano Spalletti's men.

Totti added: "Having beaten Madrid at home and away we have proved that we are one of the strongest teams in Europe. We will try to win everything."

Winning has not been a problem for the Giallorossi at the Stadio Olimpico, where they have lost just once this campaign and taken nine league victories in a row.

Milan captain Paolo Maldini is well aware of the challenge the Rossoneri face this weekend.

He said: "Roma are the side that play the best Italian football. They have also been able to play with continuity despite going through a delicate patch. It will not be easy."

With the pressure mainly on the hosts, Carlo Ancelotti's outfit will be looking to take advantage as they hope to leapfrog fourth-placed Fiorentina in the standings.

Last weekend's 3-1 victory over Empoli allowed them to move just one point behind the Viola, who host Genoa on Sunday.

Failure to finish in the top four would be a huge blow for Milan, who were knocked out of this season's Champions League at the last-16 stage by Arsenal.

Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso said: "At this time our only objective is to finish fourth. With all due respects, we do not want to go to play in Bratislava or in Bulgaria.

"It would be sad to play in the UEFA Cup, because we are used to playing in the top competition."

Ancelotti will be boosted by the return of Gattuso, Alessandro Nesta, Marek Jankulovski and Clarence Seedorf, who are all fully recovered from their respective injuries.

The Rossoneri will be without injured players Dida, Cafu, Serginho, Ronaldo and Filippo Inzaghi. Spalletti will hoping to recover defender Philippe Mexes, who is struggling with a muscular injury.
