Revs to partner with Boston, Greater Boston Food Bank

The New England Revolution has announced plans to collect canned goods next week on behalf of the Greater Boston Food Bank, extending a partnership with the City of Boston and Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino's Mayor's Food & Fuel Campaign that began earlier this spring.

The team will sponsor two collection dates next week: Sunday, May 10, and Saturday, May 16. Each fan who makes a donation of a canned good at the Revolution match against the Colorado Rapids at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, will receive a coupon for a free 12 oz. soda at that night's match.

"This joint effort is needed more than ever, and I'm proud that we've had so many partners step up to help individuals in need," Mayor Thomas Menino said. "In this tough economy, hunger has been a rapidly growing problem in our city and across the nation. More people than ever are facing difficult times where they simply cannot stretch their budgets any further. The donations will help put food on the table for many less fortunate families."

The Revolution will launch the collection efforts on Sunday, May 10, at Patriot Place in Foxborough. Donations will be accepted at Patriot Place Plaza during the Rock the Plaza concerts at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Performances take place outside the ProShop at the north end of Gillette Stadium.

On Saturday, May 16, donations will again be accepted at the Rock the Plaza concerts, and also at the Revolution game at 7:30 p.m. against the Colorado Rapids, with donation locations at each stadium gate.

"We're pleased to be able to support such a meaningful program like the Mayor's Food & Fuel Campaign," Revolution Chief Operating Officer Brian Bilello said. "Our supporters and fans have always been compassionate for the greater community, and we expect they'll embrace our collection efforts next week."
