Reserves: United 4, Wizards 1

Lucio Filomeno scored the first and fourth goal for the D.C. United reserves, as the Black-and-Red topped the visiting Kansas City Wizards reserves 4-1. Jamil Walker and Justin Moose also notched goals in the second half, as the Wizards' Alex Zotinca scored the lone goal for the visitors. United's reserve squad improves to 1-0-1 on the season, while KC falls to 1-1-0.

In a game highlighted by the return of goalkeeper Nick Rimando - who has not seen the field since pre-season - United controlled much of the play in the first half. DC created a number of chances through the first 40 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net until just before halftime. In the 42nd minute, United were awarded a freekick just outside their 18-yard box. Rimando stepped up and struck a beautifully-weighted ball to Filomeno, who corralled the bouncing ball with his head and moved into the goal box, before hitting a laser past KC's goalkeeper Will Hesmer just under the cross bar.

As the second half began, Kansas City slowly found themselves with more possession of the ball, however it was United who struck early. In the 52nd minute Rod Dyachenko collected the ball on the right side of the field and moved towards goal. The midfielder slid the ball to Filomeno in the box, who left his first touch for Moose. Moose cut between two defenders and struck a left footed shot that snuck past Hesmer to give United a two-goal advantage.

The Wizards answered quickly, however, just two minutes later after they were awarded a free kick 22 yards from goal deep on United's left side. The kick was sent into the goal box and over the head of United's goalkeeper Ryan McIntosh. The swerving ball careened off the goal post and directly into the path of KC's Alex Zotinca. The midfielder struck easily re-directed the ball into the nearly empty net.

Though the Wizards generated a number of chances on goal as the half wore on, D.C. scored two opportunistic goals in the final minutes to put the game away. In the 84th minute, Jeff Carroll played a lofted ball into the goal box for Walker, who controlled the ball with his first touch and then shot the ball to the far post. Hesmer slowed down his shot, but the ball trickled across the goal line to put D.C. up by two.

United's finall tally came four minutes before the whistle when Dyachenko found Brandon Prideaux with a slick pass with his heel into the goal box. Prideaux put a cross from the left side into the goal box that found the head of Filomeno. The Argentine's powerful header flew by Hesmer for the final tally of the game.
