TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trialist
With the Secondary Transfer Window closed in MLS and the roster freeze deadline fast approaching, teams are getting their final opportunities to make final roster tweaks for the 2018 season. In the case of the Philadelphia Union, they could add a forward, if a reported trial goes well.
Jonathan Tannenwald of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Thursday that the Union have brought in forward Kacper Przybylko on trial. The towering striker, 25, is a free agent, and would be eligible to be signed before the MLS roster freeze deadline on Sept. 14.
Przybylko, born and raised in Germany and of Polish heritage, has played his entire club career to date in Germany. He's played for Armenia Bielefeld, FC Koln, Greuther Furth and Kaiserslautern. While he's played for major clubs, Przybylko has never played higher than the second division.
A Polish youth international, Przybylko has played from U-15 to U-21 level over the years.
Tannenwald's report includes quotes from Union head coach Jim Curtin about the trialist.
"We're taking a look," Curtin said. "He's done really well. A big target No. 9 and a guy who has really good feet for a big guy, and overall has done good with his first couple days."
The Union are currently on track to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs this season and are in the 2018 U.S. Open Cup final, looking for the club's first silverware. Their leading scorer in league play this year is Cory Burke, with eight goals, who has emerged over the course of the season after coming through the Union's USL club Bethlehem Steel.
