TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
Toronto FC are close to signing Liverpool and Scotland youth international Tony Gallacher on loan, according to Joshua Kloke of The Athletic.
Gallacher, a 21-year-old left back, has made 32 appearances for Liverpool’s U23 team since arriving from Scottish side Falkirk FC in 2018. He also featured in one Liverpool senior-squad match last season, a Carabao Cup quarterfinal defeat against Aston Villa, and awaits his senior national team debut.
Gallacher would add depth beyond veteran Justin Morrow and Canada international Richie Laryea at left back. TFC have leaned upon Auro at right back, while former Homegrown defender Ashtone Morgan now competes for Real Salt Lake after signing as a free agent.
As Toronto approach the next phase of their 2020 regular season schedule, Kloke reports that Gallacher would be available for selection given that he’s already quarantining in Toronto.
The Reds occupy second place in the Eastern Conference standings. Their Phase 1 schedule was exclusively played in Canada, and they’ll now head stateside for a September 19 match at D.C. United to begin the next portion (7:30 pm ET | TSN, MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US). The 2019 MLS Cup finalists will also host a September 27 match against Columbus Crew SC at Rentschler Field in Hartford, Conn., amid COVID-19 pandemic limitations.
