The Portland Timbers have reportedly ramped up their chase for a big money striker.
According to ESPN's Jeff Carlisle, the Timbers have had a $7 million bid rejected by Tigres' for star Julian Quiñones. He adds that there was no counter, cooling the speculation that Quiñones will be joining this offseason.
Quiñones, 21, is a forward that has played through the center and on both wings in his career. In Liga MX Apertura, he had two goals and two assists in 13 matches. In Clausura play, which recently kicked off, he has yet to score in four appearances as Tigres are off to a 2-1-1 start.
Earlier this month it was reported that the Timbers would be chasing a young forward as a Designated Player with AEK Athens' Ezequiel Ponce, a 21-year-old Argentine, being named first. A few days later, the Timbers were said to be interested in Quinones.
USMNT striker Jeremy Ebobisse, who showed versatility by making his international debut at left wing last week, finished 2018 as the Timbers' first choice forward.
