TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
The Portland Timbers are looking to acquire C.D. Guadalajara outside back Josecarlos Van Rankin on a one-year loan, according to a report from ESPN's Jesus Bernal.
Van Rankin, who mainly plays on the right, has been in Liga MX since 2012 and has stops at Pumas, Chivas and Santos Laguna. The 27-year-old has 10 goals and 10 assists in 260professional appearances, recently spending time on loan at Santos Laguna. He's also earned one cap with Mexico's national team, appearing in an October 2018 friendly against Costa Rica.
Portland are in need of fullback depth after trading Marco Farfan to LAFC and Jorge Villafana to the LA Galaxy. They’re both left backs, while the Timbers’ offseason also included a move for left back Claudio Bravo from Argentine club Banfield.
Portland currently have Pablo Bonilla at right back and then are in need of depth. It figures to be a busy 2021 season for head coach Giovanni Savarese’s team, with their schedule also including a spot in the Concacaf Champions League.
