Budweiser Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo turned more than a few heads in Major League Soccer toward Vancouver this year, and it appears he caught the attention of one international club in Scandanavia.
Norwegian outlet Bergens Tidende reported on Friday that Rosenborg has an eye on the Brazilian attacker, who scored a league-leading 22 goals for the Whitecaps this season.
The report indicates that Rosenborg scout Stig Torbjørnsen has reached out to the Whitecaps on at least two occassions this year about Sanvezzo, inlcuding a conversation last week.
"Camilo enjoyed a fantastic 2013 season and naturally there is interest from clubs within the league and around the world," Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi said in a statement. "Camilo is under contract and we look forward to having him back in the new year. However, with any player, we will also listen if there is interest from another club."
Rosenborg are the most decorated club in Norway and a regular in the UEFA Champions League, boasting 22 first division titles in Norway. They’re best known in North American soccer circles as the home club for US national team midfielder Mix Diskerud, who has played with the club since August 2012.
Sanvezzo, 25, has scored 39 goals in 92 regular season games since joining the ‘Caps for their expansion season in 2011. Earlier this week he was awarded the AT&T Goal of the Year for a stellar scissor-kick strike against the Portland Timbers.
