TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
The New York Red Bulls could be set to bring in some goalkeeper reinforcements in the form of Brazilian backstop Carlos Miguel Coronel of Red Bull Salzburg, according to a Saturday report from Austrian outlet Kronen Zeitung.
The 24-year-old has been with Salzburg since 2017, but has never broken through as a regular, making five first-team appearances. He spent time on loan in 2019 with the Philadelphia Union, as well as their USL Championship affiliate Philadelphia Union II, so he's familiar with MLS. Coronel made four appearances for the Union and another eight for Bethlehem.
Prior to joining Salzburg, Coronel started his professional career in Austria with FC Liefering, where he made 67 appearances from 2015-2017.
Coronel has only played in one match for Salzburg under former RBNY head coach Jesse Marsch this season, so a move stateside could provide a chance to compete for more regular minutes, although there are already three other goalkeepers on the club's first-team roster. David Jensen and Ryan Meara split the starting duties between the posts for RBNY in 2020, with Meara starting 13 games to Jensen's 10.
19-year-old Luca Lewis was also added to the MLS roster in December after making three appearances last season for New York Red Bulls II.
