Is Nigel de Jong headed back to Europe, after less than a season with the LA Galaxy?
In a post on Monday afternoon, follow-oranje.com reported that the 31-year-old midfielder was in Istanbul ahead of a move to Turkish side Galatasaray. ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman also reported that the two teams were close to sealing a deal:
De Jong joined the Galaxy in January, moving from AC Milan, and has appeared in 18 matches this season without a goal or an assist.
The longtime Dutch international provided an international pedigree at the defensive midfield position for the Galaxy, but has had his share of disciplinary issues during his time in the league. He was given a three-match suspension in April, for a tackle that injured Portland's Darlington Nagbe, and was sent off on a straight red card in early July for a bad tackle on Vancouver's Blas Perez.
