TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Anthony Hudson might have identified 12 Major League Soccer strikers to target for the 2019 season as part of a global search, but the Colorado Rapids coach reportedly had a striker already training with them.
Pro Soccer USA reported on Monday that former Everton striker Victor Anichebe has been training with the Rapids since late September. Despite this, it appears that the 30-year-old will not be suiting up for the Rapids anytime soon.
“Victor Anichebe is not a target for the club. He trained with the team for a few days during a personal trip to the US to maintain fitness. Victor returned home last week,” confirmed a member of the Rapids media team when reached for comment.
The 30-year-old Nigerian, who also played for West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland, most recently was on the books of Chinese second division side Beijing Enterprises where he scored twice in 11 appearances.
But he left the club after reportedly being told on two occasions “not to try” and encouraged to fix matches.
Anichebe, who made 11 appearances for the Super Eagles, was a teammate of Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard at Everton for six of his seasons on Merseyside where he scored 18 goals in 118 appearances.
